Starting a Business is easy! Building it up to one that ensures a monthly Income… That is the Challenge you’ll face. A Lot of entrepreneurs think all you need is a logo to get going. And even though there is truth in that…it extends further. It comes down to achieving a consistency, leading to your brand/business becoming recognisable and, in Time, being trusted. You do need a logo for sure. Can you make your own out of clipart and a pixelated pig face you found on the internet that looks cute enough to be a logo? You can…but what happens when you start growing? What if the Original owner of Pigface recognises that your well-ish crafted handywork is now generating an income for you and not him? Well then you are in trouble. Especially if you are in South-Africa and your Pigface logo hails from the U.S of A. with a Dollar to Rand exchange rate.
So, what is the right way of going about this? Firstly, hire a Professional. Most Professionals should give you various pricing options based on your budget. Secondly, most people look at Price and, like all things, Don’t go for the Cheapest. Find the Middle ground between price and the best quality service for your unique business needs.
So Now we have a logo – Do we paste it Everywhere? Not Quite. You see, then it’s merely a logo floating on white! You’ve seen it, those Facebook pages with a giant logo in the header. If you visit these pages, what’s your thoughts? These guys are “amateurish”. And yes I get it: Budget, Time. At least there’s something, there right? Well, if it leaves a negative effect on potential clients is it not better to have nothing instead? As Harsh as it sounds – The truth is we all judge on First impressions. Would you go to an interview just wearing your underwear. NO! “What would they Think?!”
A good Designer should be able to create a connection between elements based on your logo. Be it adding elements to said design or creating New ones. Remember, this is your designer’s Job and they should be able to make a connection that resembles a common design thread in the same way large design agencies do it.
So where do you start? Social media or a Website? My Suggestion is to start on Social Media. Create a following First. Get people behind you who are interested in what you do and create the trust to show people that you know what you are doing; what you are talking about. And Yes…get a Designer to professionally create anything that gets eyes on it. Because First Impressions matter. If you can’t afford a Designer Full time…Then get him to create a Template.
I can hear you mumbling: “Why not a Website?” Well, your SEO as a start, no point on being on Page 60 in Google. What’s that? Just a floating logo again? The problem is most people think they can’t afford it…so what you get is a badly designed product that actually can hurt your Business Offering’s reputation…even before your clients get to know you. So rather wait, save and do your planning. If for example you save 3 months. That’s 90 days to find the right Designer that can do your Business Branding and what it stands for JUSTICE!
