6 Reasons Why Your Website Needs a Blog
8th July 2021How to stay top of mind during the Holiday Season
22nd November 2021Well, it’s time to talk about the elephant in the room! Yes, you know. The fact that since 2020 most, if not all, of us have been working from home! And quite frankly, it’s not going to change anytime soon. If anything, it’s created a shift and a crack too big to fix! So now that Working-From-Home is the new normal. How do you keep from going off the deep-end? Well, we have been wondering the same, and here’s what we’ve found works:
1. Try to create a separate home and work space
I’m not saying move the TV to the bedroom and make the lounge your breakroom. More along the lines of: have a designated time for work. Same as going to the office. By 8am you’d be done with breakfast, phone goes on silent and you focus on what needs to be done till 9 before you start your first project. Stick to those routines. I get the watercooler/first coffee chats aren’t there anymore but you can still send a quick WhatsApp and make sure you reply when the group talks. It’s important to still feel part of the team! Don’t go shower at 10, or quickly catch up on a series…from 8 – 5 is your worktime. Keep it as such!
2. Create an action plan to work through
Set up tasks and goals for yourself or your team to achieve. It’s important to not get lost in the idea that of all your days are just blending into one. So, to keep this from happening you create an agenda and build on it. Sometimes the goalpost could change, but each morning you set out where you would like to be before the next day. That motivation will keep you from feeling a hamster on a wheel!
3. Make ‘break-away’ times
When in an office environment it is easy enough for people to distract you or help you take a moment to just break away from your desk for coffee or so. Because you are all alone, you have to now create those times. And it really is easy enough, say every 3 hours you take a coffee break or water break. Set up designated times for you to catch a breather!
4. Be okay with times blending into each other
Because you are already at home, it’s most likely normal home habits could take over. You might work two hours later after 5 or start later in the morning. Once in a while it’s fine. Just be clear to not go over those boundaries too often!
5. Look out for yourself
The reality is, you are pretty much at home now 24/7…you need to get out of your own space! Make plans on the weekend! Go away, visit friends. If we stay stuck in one spot we tend to forget our purpose. It’s human nature really. So still have goals, still have ideals and above all make sure you enjoy your time and your days!
This are our top 5 changes or adaptions we found affects our day-to-day the most. Hope they can benefit you! We are after all, all in this together!
