Changing The Social Media Game: Graphic Designers And AI Joining Forces
6th October 2023Prepare, designers-the trends that will influence our work, inspire us, and (ideally) help us avoid client requests for “just one more revision” are here to stay in 2025.
Even though some timeless designs are still popular, new trends are starting to emerge that elevate creativity. We can answer your questions about what’s hot and what isn’t. Let’s explore the major design trends of the first half of 2025 and how they are changing the game!
1. Retro-Futurism is Back (Again!)
Think of digital nostalgia, neon from the 1980s, and chrome accents, but make it sleek and contemporary. Designers are fusing styles from the past and the future; think retro fonts, pixel-inspired elements, and bold gradients. If your designs don’t look like they belong on a VHS tape and a holographic billboard at the same time, you’re doing it wrong.
2. Creativity Supported by AI
AI is still around, but designers are using it to their advantage rather than in place of them. It’s more important to use AI to optimise processes than to let it take over. From generating concepts to refining color palettes, AI is a helpful assistant for everything from coming up with ideas to perfecting colour schemes, but don’t worry, your creative mind still takes centre stage.
3. Maximalism Makes a Statement
Design that is bold, chaotic, and driven by personality is here to replace minimalism. Rich textures, clashing colours, layered typography, and anything that shouts “LOOK AT ME” are all being embraced by brands. If you ever held back on adding just one more design element, now’s your time to shine.
4. Hand-Drawn & DIY Aesthetic
The key is authenticity. Imperfect doodles, sloppy brushwork, and illustrations give branding personality and individuality. Expect to see more logos and packaging with a hand-crafted, artistic touch—because nothing says “one of a kind” like an element that can’t be AI-generated.
5. Sci-Fi & Surreal 3D Elements
3D elements are taking centre stage in everything from futuristic interfaces to typography that resembles liquid. Digital experiences are becoming more immersive and surreal thanks to designs that embrace hyperrealism and dreamlike imagery. In essence, the Tron aesthetic is at last becoming popular.
